The Treasure Coast Kennel Club’s Pirate Cluster is a four-day, family-friendly event at the St. Lucie County Fairgrounds featuring dock diving, FastCAT racing, agility courses, and frisbee competitions, with free admission for spectators and opportunities for local dogs to participate.
According to Treasure Coast Kennel Club President Lisa Root, there is something for every skill level. Many events even offer same-day registration for local dogs to try their paws at a new sport. Highlights of the event include:
- Dock Diving: Watch energetic dogs sprint down a platform and launch themselves into a pool to retrieve a toy. This crowd-favorite event is known for the infectious excitement it brings to both pets and spectators.
- FastCAT Racing: A thrilling dash where dogs chase a lure, showcasing their top sprinting speeds along a specialized course.
- Agility Courses: Canines navigate a complex series of obstacles, demonstrating obedience, agility, and incredible teamwork with their handlers.
- UpDog Frisbee: High-flying acrobatic displays as dogs leap to catch flying discs.
Participants note that experienced dogs often recognize the competitive venue the moment they pull into the parking lot, barking with anticipation before they even exit their vehicles. However, this event is about much more than just the competition. The Pirate Cluster serves as a vibrant community gathering that highlights the growing popularity of dog sports. Vendors and raffles will be on-site, providing an excellent environment for owners to stay active, build stronger bonds with their pets, and mingle with fellow dog enthusiasts.
The event is incredibly accessible for local families. Spectator admission and parking at the St. Lucie County Fairgrounds are completely free, making it a perfect outing for Treasure Coast residents. For those wishing to enter their own dogs into specific sporting events, individual participation fees will apply.
