The grocery shopping landscape across the Treasure Coast is undergoing a significant transformation. Shoppers in Vero Beach, Sebastian, and surrounding communities are seeing familiar storefronts change as Aldi continues its large-scale conversion of former Winn-Dixie locations to meet growing local demand.

This wave of new store openings is part of a massive corporate transition that began when Aldi U.S. announced its acquisition of Southeastern Grocers in August 2023. The deal, which was finalized in March 2024, set the stage for nearly 400 Winn-Dixie and Harveys Supermarket locations to be rebranded across the country. In a subsequent financial move in February 2025, a consortium of private investors acquired Southeastern Grocers and its remaining banner brands directly from Aldi U.S.

Locally, the retail impact has been substantial. Before the initial 2023 announcement, the Treasure Coast was home to eight Winn-Dixie stores and only five Aldi locations. Following an aggressive expansion and remodeling strategy, the region now boasts 11 Aldi grocery stores, with more developments on the horizon.

The conversion of six Treasure Coast Winn-Dixie stores into new Aldi locations reflects a major shift in the local retail market, directly impacting how residents in Indian River, St. Lucie, and Martin counties shop for their daily groceries.

For Indian River County residents eager to explore the newly modeled aisles, local locations have already opened their doors, while others in the wider region are currently in the transition phase. The strategic placements ensure that budget-conscious shoppers from Vero Beach down to Hobe Sound will have expanded access to the grocer’s popular private-label goods.

Here is the current status of the regional Winn-Dixie to Aldi conversions:

  • Vero Beach: Located at 2950 Ninth St. S.W. (Opened March 19)
  • Sebastian: Located at 995 Sebastian Blvd. (Opened April 23)
  • Jensen Beach: Located at 1105 N.E. Jensen Beach Blvd. (Opened July 24)
  • Hobe Sound: Located at 8867 S.E. Bridge Road (Expected to open in the summer of 2026)

In addition to these confirmed transitions, two former Winn-Dixie properties in Fort Pierce—located at 4870 N. Kings Highway and 4967 S. U.S. 1—are also slated to become Aldi markets. While exact grand opening dates for these specific St. Lucie County locations have not yet been announced, Chris Hewitt, vice president of the Aldi Royal Palm Beach Division, confirmed that the company is actively making headway on both sites.

Whether you are a dedicated bargain hunter or simply looking for a new place to pick up your weekly essentials, the continued expansion of Aldi provides Treasure Coast shoppers with modern, streamlined retail options right in their own neighborhoods.
